Indie rock has become the front runner in modern day rock, and that is all fine and good as long as theydon't sound like Modest Mouse or Pavement. The xx sounds like anything but. Hailing from the UK with Cure-style riffs and simple beats, you feel like a true romantic with a heart of granite. The vocals swoon in and out, with both male and female leads that sound heartbroken but not bitter. With 11 tracks, it's quite a quick listen, but that's perfectly ok, because if you were to listen to any more, you'd probably lose track of how you truly feel in the moment.
